Sparging

Sparging is rinsing the grains to try to get as much sugar and flavor out of them as possible. The process is to add 170F water to the grain, stir well, recycle the runnings, then drain into the boil kettle, while topping up the water level to keep it just above the level of the grain bed.

Coiling the tubing

Heating the 4 gallons of sparge water to 170F

Filling the mash tun for batch sparging, 4:10

I just used the ladle to fill the mash tun with water to about an inch above the grain bed. Pouring it in would have been easier.
